I promised I would post the whole painting today and not leave you in suspense any longer, but I think I’m still going to have to spend at least another day on this one…
I’ll tell the story behind this when I’m done, hopefully tomorrow. 🙂
Oh, Karin! This looks beautiful! I’m so impressed how you can make everyday scenes come to life. I’ll be interested to hear the story behind this one. I love how you often capture what is or will be family history in your paintings.
Thank you, Pam. This is a bit of a family story, but I think what I want the painting to represent is the beauty of serving in the simple things…like folding napkins. 🙂
Thank you, Zina. That is what struck me about the whole scene when I first was inspired to paint it. Just all the neutral colors and then that red bouquet kind of off to the side… Wasn’t sure if this would really work. I’m still not sure that I should add some color here and there as reflection, but I really don’t want to take away from the what caught my eye in the first place.
I just saw the finished piece and it seems to work with having the pop of red on the one side. I don’t think you need to add any more. It’s so beautiful. And I love how white the napkins are – they look very crisp against the more muted grey tones.

I like the peaceful mood here Karin, there is a feeling of comradery … heart to heart conversations making the work go by faster.

“Out of small things, great things come to pass”. A worthy goal for this painting. I’m looking forward to seeing it all finished.
