Day 12 ~ Tasmania Bay

Not sure, but I think this might be the Bay of Fires in Tasmania, that I have painted several paintings of before. My daughters went to Tasmania a couple of years ago and I asked them to take pictures so I could paint some beautiful scenes that I will never get to see. I played around with a palette knife on this one. I’m really liking the textures.

This is actually larger and not square, but my regular camera is not working very well, so I saved this from my Instagram. The actual painting is 12″ x 16″ oil on canvas.

Incoming Storm ~ Bay of Fires

I didn’t participate in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge for January 2017, but I did get a few paintings done in January. This one is for one of my daughters who took a trip to Tasmania in October. She loved this storm coming in over the Bay of Fires, so I tried to capture it for her in this painting.

Bay of Fires

My daughters brought some beautiful photos home from their trip to Australia and Tasmania, and now I get to paint them…

18″ x 24″ oil on canvas

This one is of the Bay of Fires in Tasmania. I love the colors of the ocean and the big granite boulders. At first I thought the name came from the color of the lichen on the rocks, but it was actually named back in the 1700’s by a ship captain who saw the fires of Aboriginal people on the beaches.

I’m working on two more paintings that I’ll share soon. I can’t decide whether or not to do the 30 in 30 Challenge this time around… I guess I only have a couple of days to make up my mind. ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 5 ~ Remembering Ras Tanura

This painting is a commissioned piece forย  a very old friend of mine from back in the days when we lived in Saudi Arabia… Yes, we did. In a town called Ras Tanura on the Persian Gulf. I’m sure everyone who has ever lived there remembers the beautiful turquoise waters and the white sand beach…

8″ xย  8″ oil on linen

She wanted a painting of her and her 4 sisters and her mom on the beach. I pulled this painting together from several different photographs. The girls on the beach building the sand castle were actually in a photo decorating a Christmas tree. I had to come up with something for the mom and the littlest sister. The beach scene is from an actualย  photo of Ras Tanura beach.

Sure brings back a lot of memories…

Day 14 ~ Beach at Ras Tanura

Many of you probably have no idea where Ras Tanura is, but I spent about 6 years of life there when I was a teen. Ras Tanura is in Saudi Arabia right on the Persian Gulf. The beach there was incredibly beautiful. I remember the ocean being a turquoise color and the sand was so white… Here’s my mini rendition of that beach…
