Incoming Storm ~ Bay of Fires

I didn’t participate in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge for January 2017, but I did get a few paintings done in January. This one is for one of my daughters who took a trip to Tasmania in October. She loved this storm coming in over the Bay of Fires, so I tried to capture it for her in this painting.

Bay of Fires

My daughters brought some beautiful photos home from their trip to Australia and Tasmania, and now I get to paint them…

This one is of the Bay of Fires in Tasmania. I love the colors of the ocean and the big granite boulders. At first I thought the name came from the color of the lichen on the rocks, but it was actually named back in the 1700’s by a ship captain who saw the fires of Aboriginal people on the beaches.

I’m working on two more paintings that I’ll share soon. I can’t decide whether or not to do the 30 in 30 Challenge this time around… I guess I only have a couple of days to make up my mind. πŸ™‚

The Ocean at Westcliff

I’ve been trying to post each one of these paintings separately, but I can’t seem to get the individual photos to line up and accurately portray the colors. This is a commissioned piece made up of 3 Β  12″ x 12″ gallery wrapped canvases, so the painting actually continues on the sides of each one.

Santa Cruz Lighthouse

I have been working on this commissioned painting for about 3 weeks now. And I’m missing out on the January 30 in 3o, but I have 3 more paintings commissioned for January and I think I will just concentrate on those.

So grateful for the opportunity to do these paintings. The other three are also of the California coast and will line up together to make one painting. So cool… Love doing this, but I miss the challenge. You all have fun and I will be watching from afar… πŸ™‚
